Homes In Service Ministries Preparing homes for waiting children Religion that God our Father accepts
as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans in their distress. Every day in our country, children
are abused, neglected and abandoned. Thousands enter the foster care
system through no fault of their own and are subsequently permanently removed
from their homes because their birth families are unable or unwilling to
provide a safe environment for them. These children may have moved multiple
times and all too frequently grow up in the system. There are more
children available for adoption from foster care each year than are
adopted. Even more compelling, this year in Michigan alone, 500 - 600 of
these children will turn 18 and exit the system without a family to call their
own. This was not God's plan for His children. At any given time there are over
4,000 children in Michigan's foster care system who are available and waiting
for a forever family to call their own. That means that parental rights
have been terminated and these children are wards of the State of Michigan,
more commonly known as "orphans". The fact is that many of these children
have endured tremendous pain and need someone to love them with the
unconditional love of our Savior. There are another 14,000 children in
the Michigan foster care system on any given day that are just waiting...to go
home, to go to a relative, to have parental rights terminated...they are orphans
also, temporarily without a home to call their own. They deserve someone
to love them with the same unconditional love of our Savior as those that are
available for adoption. I know these are hard numbers to
hear, it's easier not to have this information, it's easier to believe that the
state has it under control. Well you are hearing it, you are being given
the information and you can rest assured that the state (as hard as it tries)
does not have it under control...and besides, God does not call the state to
care for these children...He calls me and He calls you, that is if we want to be
blessed in a "religion that He accepts as pure and faultless" (James
1:27). Homes In Service Ministries is about
helping you become prepared to care for an orphan, one of God's children.
Caring for these children is not a simple request from our Father, it is
unmistakably the heart of our Father. It is about being obedient and
knowing the God that we serve. It is about getting out of your comfort
zone and stretching yourself and your resources. It is about believing
that with God as your provider and your strength that yes, even you can do
it. People have called my husband and
myself many things over the years like: saints, special, strong...I could go
on. All because we have fostered children and adopted five. We know
that we were just average people wanting to grow our family. God then
called us to adopt to fulfill both His and our desires. We are still in
awe that God, who is Father to the fatherless, would want us to give a home to
these children. We are not exceptional by our efforts but made
exceptional by God's will in our lives. Paul and I set out, as many couples,
to have children shortly after we were married. We were not able to have
biological children so like many we considered our options. As God would
have it, Paul worked as a protective services worker for the State of Michigan
when I met him. I learned much about these children that were in "the
system" before I even considered the possibility of adopting one of them.
When we started talking options for adopting neither of us could fathom
spending money on foreign or private adoption when there were so many children
here and in "the system" that needed homes. That's how we became involved
with this ministry in our lives. The ministry of caring for God's
orphans. We thought we would foster a few and
adopt one or two and then we would be done...on with our lives. Well God
had other plans for us...we've fostered over 25 children and have adopted
five. It's been an awesome road of following God's will in our
lives!!! Now God has shown us that we can't adopt them all...that we might
even be done adopting, and we don't foster as often having five permanent
children in our home. My heart was breaking, not for me so much as for all the
children that still need homes. God is good!! He has shared
with me His passion for these children and has given me this vision of Homes In
Service Ministries to help fulfill that passion. Homes In Service Ministries will
have four ministry directives it will eventually fulfill, with God's
leading. The first one is the Outreach Ministry. We
will go to what ever Bible believing church that will have us, we will educate
their congregations about the truth of foster care and foster care
adoption. We will use whatever media God directs us to that will enable
us to reach the heart of those He has called to care for these children.
Whether it be to foster, to adopt or to support those families that wish to
foster or adopt. The second ministry is Training
and Preparation Ministry. We will go to the church again to provide
the training, on site, that is necessary to become licensed foster parents or
adoptive parents. We will also walk people through the necessary paper work
and help get their homes ready for inspection. No one will have to feel
overwhelmed or intimidated by the process. The third ministry will be (God
willing) Licensing, Placement and Adoption Ministry. We need to
become licensed by the state for this and we are working towards that
now. What that license will allow us to do is: the home studies
(for foster and/or adoptive parents), complete the foster care license, place
children in foster and/or adoptive homes and complete the adoption.
Obviously this will be an exciting addition to the ministries if it is indeed
God's will that the license be granted. We will keep you posted. The forth ministry is the Support
Ministry. This will be the initiation of what we call wrap around
families. Families in each church that will step up to help and support
each family that is called to foster and/or adopt. They could be mentors,
prayer warriors, caregivers, meal makers ...and much more. As we start out on this journey that God is directing us, we are humbled at the task before us. We are standing on the promise that .. "with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26) and thankful for all fellow believers He will provide to walk this road with us. Are you feeling called?
